A full-page, half-page, quarter-page, and one-column communications Exploring advertisement was developed by WKRC Channel 12's broadcasting Explorer post in Cincinnati, Ohio. Local LFL offices will be notified of responses to the ad for follow-up.
The following is how Post 12 went about the project and who played significant roles in it as well. After beginning the project, they first brainstormed as a group. The post, including all of the Explorers, associate Advisor Lesley (the director of public service at the station), and Advisor Jesse Dunbar (1998 college graduate), decided to do a montage and that the copy was probably the most important aspect of the ad. They did a photo shoot for the project incorporating certain people at their station and at KISS 107, a radio station owned by their parent company. The principle photo thatıs in the background of all the ads features Dayna Eubanks, a super-popular anchorwoman at the station. They then got the proofs back for the photos and began the arduous task of choosing the right shots and coming up with the copy for the ad. Anne Garrett, a long-time Explorer who will be a senior this year, said they should just startle the readertalk to the reader like they were right there. She said something to the effect of "Hey you," and said they could say something like "Letıs communicate." It seemed to work, and everyone liked the idea. Anne, by the way, is a finalist for not only the prestigious YMCA Character Awards, but also the Golden Galaxy Awards. From there Explorer Robin Cox, who is beginning college this fall studying communication design, said she would like to work on it personally. She came up with a great layout and an interesting structure, which they all then tweaked, and from there it went to one of their print designers to finish up. Jim Steeves touched up the layout with type, copy, and logos, and then, based on feedback, touched it up to finalize it and burned it onto a CD.
Besides their work on this project, the post has been busy with major recruiting for new members. They recently interviewed around 30 young men and women, and accepted about half of them into their program. The post has a 100 percent college matriculation/placement over the past three years. Things are good with broadcasting Explorer Post 12 in Cincinnati.
